Twas the Night of the Murder

BY SinC Hawaii members: Laurie Hanan, Gail Baungiet,

Jenny Delos Santos, Larry & Rosemary Mild and Vicki White

Twas the night of the murder, when all through the house,

Sisters in Crime members were laughing and drinking—totally soused.

The logs were laid by the chimney with care,

no one realized the fire poker wasn’t there.

All sisters and misters sat nestled snug as a bug,

When Larry noticed a stain in the rug.

Then all of a sudden we heard a loud clatter,

Gail arose and exclaimed, “Oh wow, Vicki fell off a ladder.”

And what to Jenny’s wandering eyes did discover,

A sinister plot of evil uncovered.

They sprang from their sofa, to the window they rushed,

Tore open the door while each other they crushed.

The moon clouded over, no light did it bring,

only shadows and movements of odd and silly things.

A figure on the roof, all dressed in black,

Hollered out to us all, “Everyone get back.

Now Vicki, now Jenny, now Gail and Laurie …

I’m going to tell you a very creepy story.”

“Up here, on the housetop lays Rosemary in a heap,

Is she dead that I tell you, or is she asleep?

You see the poker, now clutched in her hand …”

Oh my, this really is a dastardly plan.

But with a wink of his eye, and a nod deep and low,

Larry stood before us and began to moan,

He wailed and he wept till finally he said,

“Oh no, that’s the poker that has crushed her sweet head.

The black figure first whistled before he spoke,

“No twas a bullet and that is no joke.

The fireplace poker was really a gun,

And that’s just how the dirty deed was done.”

Now everyone gathered in the living room warm,

Pointing their fingers at each other in scorn.

“You did it, no you, they echoed in a shout,

Till Larry took his stand and said with no doubt,

“You see the blood on Vicki’s forehead,

Tis not her’s but Rosemary’s instead.

DNA’s not needed, for she has not a cut,

And we all know she is really a nut.

The president’s office has cost her, her mind,

It’s sad to say, she is no longer kind.”

Gail laughed and muttered till finally she cried,

“I must say, she has seemed a bit fried.”
The figure in black brought Vicki in, who he’d lead,

“It’s all over now, there is nothing to dread.”

He sprang to the door, gave his team a big whistle

dashing out of sight like a low flying missile.

We heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight,

Vicki didn’t do it, none of you are right.”
