MARCH 3/21/18 Meeting

Great workshop Wednesday 3/21 regarding marketing your work. COME AND JOIN THE FUN ....

SPEAKER: ROSEMARY THOMPSON IS THE SPEAKER-Review of previous months speaker, Jeri Westerson. Important elements extracted for discussion.

  • BOOK COVER – look professional Don’t save money on the book cover. Express what’s in the book. The book cover is very important because people judge the book by its cover. 2 Good Graphic artists: --Seth Paulson sethpaulson@ymail.com. Check his website https://www.behance.net/sethpaulson --Paul Iseri: pauliseri05@gmail.com Cover information includes backmatter- all about author and blurb about your story. Cover should represent what’s inside. And, even if you self publish, you should make yourself a logo. The cleaner you keep the cover the better it is.Laurie be aware of graphic artist who use the same cover of another book. Kent said 10% of males are color blind. If you have a red lettering on a blue background, a lot of people won’t be able to see the lettering. You would want to have a light lettering on a dark background or visa versa.Remember the book spine

  • BOOK REVIEWS -JERI recommended book reviews. And, that to ask the top four newspapers, magazines and weekly library journals to do a book review on your book. Discuss a list to generate together.Library Journals- Library Weekly – they want the book two months before it’s published -Blue Ink who have fee: about $350.The New York Times and The Washington Post are two of the four top newspapers.

  • BLOGS –Review blogs similar to your genre – make comments-be a guest ...Takes time to review blogs Don’t want to waste a lot of time on blogs that doesn’t have a lot of hits.Social Media - twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook, you can combine by using Hoot suite. Use hashtags. There are websites that give you the top latest hashtags being used.Posting pre-work - sit down one day and pick out handful of topics. Plan a month in advance, then each day just cut and paste.Follow various famous authors – post comments on their sites.PUBLICIST –can be expensive. If use – don’t let them do the work you do.

  • AUTHOR/LANDING PAGE. There’s a lot on those author page that you can add that is valuable- for example reviews from another source

  • PERSONAL BRANDING MANAGEMENT – it’s what you are all about. Like Kaiser and their Thrive campaign. Know your audience and trying utilize everything.

  • SOCIAL MEDIA - Twitter. Pinterest. Facebook. Bloggers are starting to do Medium instead of Blogging. It’s like an instagram for writing. Ge to know and nurture the relationships with authors& fans. Get followers on social media - people want to interact with you on a human level. They don’t want you to sell them something. When Lauries dog got sick her followers raised $4,000 to help. I didn’t expect it! I just posted that my dog was in a coma. Next thing I know there were thousands of people all over the world raising money and praying for my dog. This is on a human level. And, I think they are buying my book.
