April 18 2018 Meeting

ATTENDANCE:

1. SINC NATIONAL: looking for volunteers for following positions; Chapter Liaison, Author’s Coalition Representative/Grants Coordinator, Education Liaison, Treasurer, VP, President.

2. HBMF: Sat May 5 and Sun May 6 from 10am to

3. No Exhibitor vehicles allowed driving onto the grounds for loading and unloading.

4. All equipment/supplies must be hand trucked in. No hand trucks or flatbed carts provided.

5. Watch for extensive sprinkler system on grounds which will be flagged and should be avoided by hand trucks when moving in, as these are easily damaged. Your staff, as violators will be fined accordingly for repairs and damages.

6. Once the event site is closed, there is no admission and security will consider you a trespasser. This is for your protection/anyone trying to access the site will be arrested.

7. Exhibitor Parking: Asked to carpool, park off site or park in the Municipal parking lot located adjacent to the Frank F. Fasi Municipal Building at 650 South King Street. The municipal parking lot offers free parking from 4 p.m. on Friday to 8 a.m. on Monday

8. Move In Hours: Saturday, May 5 King Street curbside unloading is available from 6 a.m. – 9 a.m. Do not leave vehicles parked and unattended. Please note that we will tow the metered parking spaces along King St. as they are reserved for food vendors with signage posted on these meters.

9. Move-Out:Sunday, May 6 King Street curbside loading from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. Please do not leave your vehicles parked and unattended as this is for active loading and unloading.

10. Security: Security on the property beginning from Friday night. You will be responsible to secure your products and equipment as management will not be responsible for individual losses and we encourage you to consult your insurance company for coverage details in advance.

11. Additional Policies: As mandated by the City, absolutely no ice or water is to be dumped onto the ground or in the surrounding areas including flowerbeds, grass, manhole covers or street drains. The City will enforce this policy with appropriate citations issued to violators. Again, please pass this information along to your staff, as you will be held responsible for their actions.

15. CANCELED DUE TO FLOODING -Hawaii Fiction Writers April meeting - Joyce Maltby rescheduled to speak in June speaking --What drives character, from her years of experience in directing and acting in the theatre, where developing character really counts. Joyce Maltby’s lifetime career in theatre has taken her throughout the U.S. as an actor, director and teacher. In Hawaii she’s known for her work at MVT, DHT, ACT, UH Manoa, TAG and as founder of the HPU Theatre program, serving as Theatre Professor for 23 years. She is a Pierre Bowman Lifetime Achievement Award recipient and has won 21 Po’okela Awards for acting and directing. Joyce is a member of SAG-AFTRA and Actor’s Equity.

16. IMAGERY WRITING – Some authors have used what is called Myriorama Cards- these are illustrated cards. The word was invented to mea myriad pictures. We use imagery in many things – hieroglyphics, petroglyphics, ancient Egyptian language, book covers, picture books, graphic novels, emoji’s, street signs, symbols, sign language, graphs, TV and videos = all to tell a story and send a message. Picture papers were handed out. Everyone was to write a story from the pictures. Stories were shared. Great fun!

17. MAY MEETING – is canceled due to Hawaii Book and Music Festival

18. NEXT MEETING – June 20 at Temple Emmanuel. Address is 2550 Pali Hwy, Honolulu, HI 96817 Take Pali and turn left (if you are heading into the mountains) at traffic light on Jack Lane. Temple situated on. There is a Bus stop near the Temple.

GROUP DISCUSSION HIGHLIGHTS:

• DNA/FINGERPRINTS – problems with authenticity now being identified. Ability to alter through various methods; hacking … Reconsideration of using being addressed.

• FACIAL RECOGNITION –although seeing a lot in the TV/movies, is not yet been developed to be good yet.

• DETAILS TAUGHT– police taught not to pick up casings after shooting. Can cause problems and even getting shot. Taught not to hit the ground but to face your target and shoot. Never surrender your weapon. It is very easy to get semi-automatic weapons. Glock and 9mm still popular guns. There are now kits to insert chambers into a gun to change the caliber of weapon used or even change it to an automatic one

• AIMING A GUN – a gun has recoil, moving the current aim on a target that requires the shooter to re-aim.
