July 18, 2018 Meeting


1. SPEAKER: Father Moki who will also give us a talk on the history of the Cathedral and allowed us to tour it at will. He was a delightful speaker. 2. PARKING CARDS – were handed out to those who needed. Keep cards they are good through 2019 but only on Wed nights from 6-9 Those who received Vicki, Carol C, Rosemary M, Rose T, Katherine N, Lizbeth Hartz, Lana B, Kent R, Jenny DS 3. FICTION WRITERS: Saturday, July 21 - Writers Workshop: “Sidekicks & Buddies in Fiction & Film.” Workshop led by Michael Little & Ann Inoshita. The meetings in June, July, and August at Epiphany Episcopal Church in Kaimuki; corner of 10th & Harding

4. OCT BLAISDELL ARTS & CRAFT FAIR: OCT 19-21. Fri 19 from 5p to 9p. Sat 10a to 7p and Sun 10 a to 5 p. Our grant has been approved for $500. Unacceptable Use of Funds food & beverage-chapter marketing materials (bookmarks, flyers, pins)-chapter promotional materials (chapter totes, pens, note pads) There will be a $20 fee for those who wish to participate. Would like to know by end Aug who will be coming. The Mayors Arts & Craft show in Nov was a success and only a 4 hour opportunity. IT would be best to set up a schedule so we know all hours are covered. Please post to advertise this event monthly on your websites and facebook- even if you are not coming. 5. SPEAKING OPPORTUNITIES: 2 opportunities have come up for speaking. Will draft a schedule to people to sign up. 6. WRITING WITH PROPS: SEE http://writersinthestormblog.com/2018/05/when-action-isnt-a-good-thing-in-your-novel/ Props like a coffee cup, cigarette, cars, … do they reveal something about plot or the character or is it just busy work In the first example, there’s action in that they’re drinking coffee. But who cares! It doesn’t say anything about the two of them or the story. In the second example, that action is used to illuminate more about the characters and what’s going on? 9. UPCOMING MEETINGS: AUGUST at Da Shop. SEPT St Andrews Cathedral due to Yom Kippur OCT-Temple Emmanuel. (at this meeting we will decide on our meeting locations for future) 10. PARKING ST ANDREWS: you must display card on your dash in full view. You must use numbered stalls only. You may keep card. 11. ELECTION FOR OFFICES: will be held at our November meeting this year. 2 years goes by fast. You must be a paid up SinC national member to be voted for/elected. 12. LISTSERV – a place on SinC website to post your upcoming news and ideas. Unfortunately, due to abuse of use, and the toilsome work to clean it up, the ListServ has been retired. SinC National will be looking for a new venue to post your news and ideas in future.
