RE: ILLEGAL CHINESE IMMIGRANTSSarah 24, was born and raised in the middle of Indiana, the land of cornfields. Despite her home town having an almost non-existent Chinese population, Sarah developed a love and fascination with Asian culture. This lead her to find and befriend all the Chinese hidden away in her hometown, from exchange students and the college campuses to the workers in the restaurant kitchens. Opening up a whole underground reality that many in American do not know exists. Through learning Chinese, working at a Chinese owned restaurant, research through her school and just talking to her fellow workers and Chinese friends, she unearthed the Fujianese illegal immigrant workers smuggling system in America. She is currently living locally in Hawaii and often travels to China striving to make videos to bridge cultural differences.

HAWAII FICTION WRITERS: Coming up next weekend, a writers workshop led by Carol Catanzariti! Continuing our focus this year on narrative, Carol will be looking at narrative and prose poems: "When is a Poem a Prose Poem or a Narrative Poem? Or is it a poem at all? That's the $1,000,000 question and there are different answers. Truth is, I've argued with myself about this for quite a while. IS there even an answer? Is a 'poem' that reads more like a story a poem at all? I'll bring some examples. Then folks can try to write a prose or narrative poem."
Date: Saturday, September 21, 2019 Time: 10 a.m. to noon
Place: Aina Haina Library

QUOTE FROM JOHN STEINBECK: from The Winter of Our Discontent, his last book. He says: “A man who tells secrets or stories must think of who is hearing or reading, for a story has as many versions as it has readers. Everyone takes what he wants or can from it and thus changes it to his measure.”
2020 MEETINGS: We will continue Meetup app. For non-members and meetings with speakers we will be charging a $5.00 fee.
